The Constitution of SIASU was amended to rename all divisions to Branches.

08 Dec 1991

SIASU's song was officially launched at its 44th anniversary dinner and dance.

1985 - 1989

In line with the NWC recommendations and to demonstrate our belief in responsible unionism, we accepted a cut in the CPF payment, in view of the "recession" that Singapore was undergoing.

Singapore Airlines Staff Union (SIASU), a house union, was formed with membership open to employees of Singapore Airlines and its subsidiaries with the exception of Singapore Airport Terminal Services and Singapore Airport Duty-Free Emporium.

Dec 1978

SILO, PIEU and SATU bought the "Big Splash" at a cost of $4.25 million. This recreational center is to provide for the 120,000 members and the families of the three Unions. This is the first venture of its kind ever entered into by any trade union or trade unions in Singapore

The Union registered its Multi-purpose Co-operative Society. Its first venture is a canteen at the Hangar Complex.

SATU's first Residential Leadership Training Course was held at the National Youth Leadership Training Center, Singapore. There were 19 participants comprising leaders from the Union.

09 Mar 1972

An Extraordinary General Meeting was held to amend the Constitution in accordance with the NTUC's Modernization Seminar of 1969. The check-off system and Welfare Benefit Scheme were implemented. A new emblem for SATU was also adopted.

Dec 1971

SATU made a claim for Goodwill Bonus in December together with the MSA Association and the MSA Pilot's Association and the MSA Executive Officer's Union supported by the Airlines Employees' Union, Kuala Lumpur, the Air Transport-workers' Union, Kota Kinabalu and the MSA Employees' Union , Kuching, after the decision to split Malaysia-Singapore Airlines was announced by the Singapore and Malaysian Governments. The bonus was paid in September 1972.

13 - 15 Jul 1970

SATU members staged a 3-day color-power carnival style protest against the then MSA Management's recalcitrant attitude. There were 20 major points of grievances, some of which were promotions, selections recruitment, regarding, shortage of staff, disciplinary inquiries, dismissal, training, privileged travel, transport, security, payment of Workmen's Compensation and other working conditions. Workers in all department reported for work in colorful attire and the protest had the desired effect.

The name Malayan Airways/ Qantas Empire Airways Local Employees' Union was changed to Singapore Air Transport-workers' Union (SATU).

The official opening of "Union House" at 20 Beng Wan Road by Comrade Ho See Beng then Chairman, NTUC.

Following the enactment of the Industrial Relations Act in 1960, the first Collective Agreement was signed between Malayan Airways and the Union.

01 Apr 1959

The two unions were amalgamated and called Malayan Airways/ Quantas Empire Airways Local Employees' union. Only employees of these two Airlines and their Associate and Subsidiary Companies were eligible for membership.

The name of Qantas Empire Airways Local Employees' Union was changed to Singapore Airlines' Employees Union.

22 Dec 1956

Members of the Malayan Airways Local Employees' Union went on strike for the first time for a Goodwill Bonus. Following the payment of the Goodwill Bonus by Management the strike ended on January 13, 1957.

Eight years later amidst threat of dismissal, employees of a local airline - Malayan Airways - formed the Malayan Airways Local Employees' Union.

The name was changed to Qantas Empire Airways Local Employees' Union in order to obtain recognition from the management of Qantas.

19 June 1947

150 airline workers assembled in Victoria Street to form the Singapore Civil Air Transport-workers' Union. Membership was confined to the employees of Qantas Empire Airways Limited.
